A stunning Georgian era mourning ring in a rare state of complete preservation, with all the hallmarks, original inscription, enamel and hair. All in original condition. It has a central locket compartment glazed with its original rounded, beveled glass and accessible only by a jeweler. This has a black enamel inner bezel and an engraved gold outer bezel. The beautiful hand engraved detailing continues throughout the piece.
The back of the ring face is inscribed: “James Slemeck Died 16 Feb"y 1822 Aged 80.” The inside shank has four hallmarks, including the date letter "f" for 1821, 18 for the gold contest, SR for maker's mark, the London office assay marks and the British hallmarks.
